The power station will require a cooling system in order to condense the steam produced in the power generating process. The power station will use a hybrid cooling system with water taken from the River Aire. The cooling water will then be returned to the River Aire at a temperature of about nine degrees warmer than the current river water temperature. The abstraction and and discharge of water from and to the River Aire will be subject to an Environmental Permit to be granted by the Environment Agency.
We will build two pipelines; one to take water from the river and the other to return water to the river. These pipelines will be about 1km (over half a mile) in length. The proposed route of the pipelines can be seen here.
