Knottingley Power is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), the state-owned electricity company in Ireland.
ESB has been involved in the British energy market since the early 1990s as the developer and owner of Corby Power Limited, one of the first independent power projects in the UK. ESB also successfully developed the 842MW CCGT plant at Marchwood near Southampton which began operating in 2009.
ESB commenced construction of an 880MW CCGT plant at Carrington near Manchester in 2012 which is expected to enter commercial operation 2015. An artists impression of the Carrington plant is seen below.
ESB also construct, own and operate renewable generation projects. In the UK we own the West Durham Wind Farm (24MW), the Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm (37.5MW), and the Fullabrook Wind Farm (66MW) in Devon.
