Social and Economic

The development of a new CCGT power station represents a long term commitment to the Knottingley area: it will bring long term employment to the area as well as a substantial investment to the local economy.

At its peak, construction activities will require in the region of 1,100 personnel on site, providing direct employment opportunities, in addition to giving a boost to local services such as restaurants, garages and accommodation providers.  Once completed, the station will create around 50 permanent, skilled jobs for the plant’s operational life of at least 25 years.

As part of our Development Consent Order application, we completed a social and economic assessment to look at the potential impacts of the project on the local economy.  The assessment considered ways to maximise the economic benefit to the local community including the provision of employment and skills development opportunities for local residents.  More information on the social and economic benefits will be made available as the project progresses.
